How to Cut Skateboard Grip Tape
In this example, there is a graphic in the middle of the board that we’re going to reveal, so we’re going to cut the grip tape in half. You might want to use the original edges of the grip tape to ensure they’re straight! Here are a few steps for the process:
Lay the grip tape on the tail of the skateboard. Line up where you want the end of the grip tape to be. (Reference to the picture on the right)
Leaving about an inch leftover from the tail of the board, carefully cut the grip tape.
Place the second half of the grip tape where you want it to be. Make sure to line up the edges straight.
Cut off an edge from one of the grip tape parts. Make sure you remove enough that there won’t be any that is overlapping the deck.
Set aside the sheets off the board for a while. Use the edges that you just cut off to rough up the area on board that you will be applying the grip tape to. Avoid roughening up areas that you will be showing. Make sure that you get the edges. This is a very important process, because it will help your grip tape grip a lot better. After sanding your board, make sure you dust it off well.
